Recent Field Trips

Kristina Wong's Sweatshop Overlord

On February 21st, students of Humanities walked over to Kirk Douglas Theater and attended Kristina Wong's newest play, Sweatshop Overlord. A body of work focused on telling stories of mourning, trauma and political unrest during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sweatshop Overlord showcases how solidarity and a care for others, brings about change and hope in our world. Whether it is sewing masks for vulnerable populations or providing a sense of community in a time of lockdown, Sweatshop Overlord reminds us that when we tap into our cultural roots and have a love for our community, we are able to combat the injustices happening outside our window.

UCLA GetLit
Thank you to UCLA and GetLit! for inviting Ms. Requa's class to GetLit's poetry event. Hamilton students got the opportunity to listen to talented response poems of GetLit! members. The students interacted and felt the power of the performers' words creating a space of support, creativity, and inspiration. Afterwards, two of our students showcased their talents and participated in a poem battle where they claimed, read, and interpreted a poem. There was no clear winner as both students received loud cheers and applauses from their peers! Once again thank you to UCLA and GetLit for inspiring the poets of tomorrow.

Delete the Divide's 2022 Tech Empowerment
Led by BITA director (Ms. Cooley) students got the opportunity to attend Delete the Divide's 2022 Tech Empowerment Day at SoFi Stadium Throughout the event, students attended various workshops. A popular one among the students was Cisco where they set up routers and access points around the stadium and networked them. In addition, Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services (AWS) were both present, both of which are among the top 3 for cloud computing / infrastructure. They also had a booth for web development that would show students how to create and style a website using HTML, CSS & JavaScript. Similarly, there was an area where students were racing to rebuild PC motherboards with all the components. Google Cloud was also helping students construct & complete electric circuits on paper using copper strips and lead pencils drawing!

All in case, it was an AMAZING experience and look forward to more like it.
