Within 30 calendar days of enrollment into a CA public school, students with Home Language Survey responses (or any other indicators) that indicate a lack of English proficiency will take this test to identify them as EL or IFEP students.

When noted in a student's IEP, they will take the Initial Alternate ELPAC to determine their initial classification as an EL or IFEP student. The Initial Alternate's testing window ends 2-weeks before that of the Initial ELPAC.
